mystical/mythical landscape
cooler weather is quickly approaching, something the icicles in this picture is proof of. this was taken at night, down by the creek. last night, while i was out with my dog, i noticed icicles forming on the branches that were hanging over the water, i thought it looked cool and brought my tripod down to see what i could make out of it. here is one of the (better) results (iso 100, f9, 90sec exp. 55mm).

fall landscape
there is nothing like setting your alarm for 7am on your day off. well, i woke up before the alarm went off and with the sound of trickling rain outside i thought it would be waste to get up and out, but i peeked outside and saw shimmer of sky and decided to give it a go. i'm glad i did although i believe i have more pictures being trash than treasury. oh well, the joy of digital camera.

it bugs me
so it's been a while, again. i really need to get my priorities straight. ha, like i'm going to turn down extra work?! anyhow, fall is here, and i am about to miss the leaves turning colours. although i'm out enough every day to see all the beautiful changes, i'm not out there with the camera, taking the time to try to capture the moments. that being said, it is something about capturing the moment with my own memory as well. my camera can't capture the smell of decaying leaves, wet ground, or the sound of rain.

split rock lighthouse
it has been a while since i last did a road trip and the times i have done so, i have never taken the time to stop along the north shore, unless it was to get gas, go pee, and/or fill up on the coffee.
so, when plans were made to go to minneapolis in the beginning of august an extra day was added and dedicated to make some stops along the way. one of the stops we made was at split rock lighthouse.
split rock lighthouse is located in two harbors, minnesota. the lighthouse was built in 1910 and operated until 1969. it is in perfect condition and as a museum there are many opportunities to learn about the history of the lighthouse and the challenges of sailing on lake superior.
i just learned that the ligthhouse is lit once a year, november 10, to mark the anniversary of the loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald, could be an interesting photo opportunity.

aged filter
i try to perfect the photo using the digital camera and its settings however, sometimes, playing with software filters are fun and can lead to unexpected results. i liked both of the photos above as they were, but with the filters it got something more to them. for those who wonder, the filter is called aged and can be found with some adobe products.

melting ice
the most fascinating thing with this is not really show all that well in the photograph. the leaf was actually melting into the ice, so that the ice was taking the shape of the leaf. beautiful nature.
