split rock lighthouse, two harbors, minnesotait has been a while since i last did a road trip and the times i have done so, i have never taken the time to stop along the north shore, unless it was to get gas, go pee, and/or fill up on the coffee.
so, when plans were made to go to minneapolis in the beginning of august an extra day was added and dedicated to make some stops along the way. one of the stops we made was at split rock lighthouse.
split rock lighthouse is located in two harbors, minnesota. the lighthouse was built in 1910 and operated until 1969. it is in perfect condition and as a museum there are many opportunities to learn about the history of the lighthouse and the challenges of sailing on lake superior.
i just learned that the ligthhouse is lit once a year, november 10, to mark the anniversary of the loss of the Edmund Fitzgerald, could be an interesting photo opportunity.
